Why You Cannot (and Should Not) Find a CNIC by Mobile Number
The short answer: no lawful service in Pakistan can reveal another person's CNIC from a mobile number — and websites that claim otherwise are misleading you.
"How can I find the CNIC linked to this mobile number?" is one of the most common search queries in Pakistan — usually from people trying to identify an unknown caller, verify a business contact, or investigate a suspicious message. This guide explains why that lookup is not possible, why the websites offering it are scams, and what you can lawfully do instead.
Why It Is Not Possible
SIM registration records in Pakistan are private subscriber data. Every SIM is linked to a CNIC through NADRA's biometric verification (MBVS) and held in PTA's Subscriber Verification Management System (SVMS), but this information is never published or sold to the public. PTA and NADRA disclose identity records only to authorized bodies through legal process — there is no public directory that maps a mobile number to an owner's CNIC.
Accessing another person's identity information without authorization is also an offence under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016. Unauthorized use of identity information carries penalties of up to 3 years imprisonment and fines up to Rs. 5 million (Section 16). In short: even if a website could show you this data, using it would put you on the wrong side of the law.
Why "CNIC Lookup" Websites Are Scams
Websites and Telegram bots that claim to return a CNIC for any mobile number operate outside the law in one of two ways:
- Stale leaked data. Most reuse the old 2013 NADRA breach snapshot, which has not been updated in over a decade. It contains no SIMs activated after 2013, so results are outdated or fabricated.
- Data harvesting.Others show fake "results" to collect the numbers you type, your CNIC if you enter it, and your payment details — and some distribute malware. PTA and NCCIA have blocked over 1,400 such platforms, and PKCERT advisories document infostealer malware in these apps.
A legitimate service would never advertise "find CNIC by mobile number" — the lookup is unlawful, so the only sites promising it are the ones you should avoid.
What You CAN Do
Check your own CNIC. Dial *668# from any mobile phone or visit cnic.sims.pk (the official PTA portal) to see every SIM registered on your own identity card — and spot any unauthorized registrations.
Check the SIM in your hand. Send MNP to 667 from a SIM that is physically in your phone to confirm which network it is currently registered on. This official PTA service works only for the SIM in your hand.
Identify a number's network by prefix. Our mobile network check tool shows the likely original network for a Pakistani number based on its prefix. Remember that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) means a number may now be active on a different operator — the current network can be confirmed by sending N 03XX (the full number) to 76367.
How to Report These Scams
- File a complaint about a fraudulent "CNIC lookup" site or unauthorized SIM activity at complaint.pta.gov.pk or call PTA at 0800-55055.
- Forward spam and scam SMS to 9000(PTA's spam reporting service).
- For cybercrime, contact the NCCIA national helpline at 1799.
Stay Safe
Use only official PTA services for your own records: *668# and cnic.sims.pk for your CNIC, MNP 667for the SIM in your hand. Never enter your CNIC on third-party "lookup" websites, and never pay for someone else's SIM records — the service does not exist.

It is showing you fabricated or stale data and harvesting your input. Close the page, do not enter your CNIC or payment details, and report it to PTA at complaint.pta.gov.pk.
