Your Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) is sensitive personal information. Only share it with authorized entities such as official SIM registration centers, NADRA offices, and licensed mobile network operator franchises.
Be cautious of unauthorized SIM registration. A SIM card registered against your CNIC without your knowledge can be misused for illegal activities. Regularly verify how many SIMs are registered on your CNIC through official channels.

Every SIM card in Pakistan is registered against an approved identity document through NADRA's Multi-Biometric Verification System (MBVS) — Pakistani nationals generally use a CNIC, while eligible foreign nationals may use passport, NICOP, or POC documents. That means every active mobile number is linked to a verified identity record — which protects the SIM owner and helps law enforcement act against misuse.
Key registration rules you should know: a maximum of 8 SIMs per CNIC (5 voice + 3 data) across all networks, all SIMs must be biometrically verified, SIMs registered without biometric verification are deactivated, corporate SIMs require business CNIC registration, and foreign nationals can register SIMs using passport numbers.
Identity fraud through unauthorized SIM registration is a real concern — someone can misuse your CNIC details to register a SIM in your name without your knowledge. Check your CNIC regularly using *668# or cnic.sims.pk. If you find numbers you did not register, contact your operator immediately and report them to PTA.
