PTCL–Telenor Merger Completed – What Changes for Telenor & Ufone Users
Telenor Pakistan is now part of the PTML group — here is what stays the same, what changes, and how your SIM checks are affected.
The long-expected consolidation of Pakistan's telecom market is official: on July 1, 2026, Telenor Pakistan formally amalgamated into PTML— the company behind Ufone — after the Islamabad High Court's approval on June 30, 2026. The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) had conditionally approved the acquisition in October 2025. PTCL had already owned Telenor Pakistan since 2024; this step completes the corporate merger.
What Stays the Same (For Now)
Your number, SIM, and balance
Nothing changes for existing Telenor or Ufone subscribers — both brands remain live and their SIMs keep working normally.
Prefixes and codes
Telenor prefixes (0340–0349) and Ufone prefixes (0330–0338) stay as they are. BVS codes (Telenor: CNIC to 7751; Ufone: V to 7911) and helplines (Telenor 345; Ufone 333) also remain live for now.
SIM checks on your CNIC
668 and cnic.sims.pk still count Telenor and Ufone SIMs separately — expect gradual convergence as systems integrate.
What Changes Over Time
Expect gradual convergence: shared infrastructure, combined offers, and eventually unified billing. Operators have said both brands will continue for the foreseeable future, but codes, plans, and coverage details may be re-verified on the operators' own channels as integration proceeds.
The combined PTML group holds roughly 35.9% market share (May 2026, PTA indicators via PhoneWorld), making it the closest rival to Jazz (~36.4%). Zong sits at ~26.6%.
Why Prefixes Can Mislead After This Merger
One consequence of any large merger: prefix-based identification becomes less reliable. After porting (MNP), a 0340 number can sit on any network, and the 0320–0329 range — originally Warid, now Jazz — is still commonly mistaken for Zong. Always confirm a number's current network with the 76367 service (send N space 03XXXXXXXXX) or our mobile network check tool.
Bottom Line
For everyday users, nothing changes immediately. Keep your SIM audit habit: a monthly 668 check on your CNIC still shows Telenor and Ufone connections separately — and the 8-SIM cap (5 voice + 3 data) still applies across all operators combined.
